Candace Su-Jung Tsai

Dr. Candace Tsai has expertise in exposure assessment, sampling techniques and engineering controls on aerosols and inhalation exposure with specific expertise in nanometer sized materials which are relevant to environmental, occupational and public health aspects.
Dr. Candace Tsai is an Associate Professor of Environmental Health and Industrial Hygiene at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). She is the Director of Industrial Hygiene program at Southern California Education Research Center (SCERC), and the Director/Principal Investigator of the Occupational Health and Safety Education Programs on Emerging Technologies at UCLA funded by NIEHS. Dr. Tsai received her Doctor of Science (ScD) degree in cleaner production and Master of Science in Management Science degree both from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and earned her Master of Science in Chemical Engineering degree from Yuan-Ze University and Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Tunghai University in Taiwan. She has about 30 years of post-educational experience in the field of industrial hygiene, public/environmental health and engineering in both her academic and industrial career.
She is the author of numerous scientific journal articles, and the textbook entitled “Health and Safety Considerations for Working with Engineered Nanoparticles”, by Wiley. She has published about 90 publications and more than 200 conference abstract papers and presentations. Dr. Tsai currently served as the President of Sustainable Nanotechnology Organization (SNO); and Co-Chair in the U.S.-EU NanoEHS Communities of Research (COR), the Databases and Computational Modeling COR, in the National Nanotechnology Initiative, U.S. Government research and development (R&D) initiative under White House.
Dr. Tsai has served as an expert for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and World Health Organization (WHO) for nanotechnology projects. on several professional committees in health and safety, industrial hygiene, nanotechnology and mining health and safety fields as an active member for many years. She is a Board Member of SNO; and serves for the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) as a voting committee member for the Threshold Limit Values for Chemical Substances (TLV-CS) ACGIH TLV committee.
